Marty, what do you mean by 'versatile' in this context?

All my currrent 50s do some things well. The six element Summicron 50 does
everything well except for that flare.

Do you have any experience with the 50mm ASPH Summilux? Is it less flare
> prone than the 50mm Summicrons (not talking about the FLE)?

Yes, plenty, and yes, it is less flare prone. Like all the asph lenses it
has very high contrast, even wide open, and the design makes light
sources in the field the hardest to control. These are easier to manage
because you see them. The out of frame light source flare in the six
element Summicrons is hard to predict and maybe I choose strange light but
it hit me about once per roll - I mostly used it when film was my main
medium.

It is, and if you're losing shots, you lose confidence, and if I am not
confident about my gear I stop seeing as well.

Marty
