I agree with George's take. 

and, additionally, I admit i'm more likely to comment on the pics of the 
person who comments on other's posts as well as mine

we tend to talk to people who talk to us

unlike some folk, i think simple "likes" or notices are important 
communication when you see something special
positive feedback is important amd instructive on what works for other eyes
