We have a similar ceremony where all children and shaved, but usually
at designated temples. The most famous shrine is the one at Tirupathi
(which is where my family goes) - which is the busiest and one of the
wealthiest holy places in the world - as a corollary, the temple trust
is the largest exporter of natural hair in India!
