Watch out, a personal note!

There is an aspect of suing photographers which I haven't seen discussed in
this
thread, and it is somewhat unnerving. In the US, anyone can sue anyone at
anytime, for practically anything, and depending on the amount of money they
are
willing to spend, it can go on for quite a while.

I was sued, and a photograph of a building without humans or pets taken from
the
public sidewalk was part of the suit. It didn't matter that virtually the
same
image was on a public site, this was a thought offense. The attorney doing
the
suing had the treasury of a wealthy non-profit behind him and hired a large
upscale law firm and fought on with increasing desperation for three years.
One
of the plaintiffs, the non-profit, finally settled and publicly apologized,
the
other settled.

Then the attorney instigating the suit and the firm which he hired then
separately sued the non-profit, who counter-sued, and this went on for a
couple
of more years, thankfully without me. Years later, the non-profit awarded
me a
medal of merit.

So be careful out there!

John
