One day I was sitting on a bench in front of the Fed Ex store, and the
store cat came out to join me.

She was prancing about on the sidewalk, so I started taking shots of her.

Then, the store manager of the neighboring Blockbusters came out, demanding
I stop taking pictures of his customers.

I explained I was taking pictures of a cat, but that he had no right to
stop me, even if I were photographing his customers as I was on public
property.

He
?confided that a woman was worried that I was photographing her children.

I had noticed the children, who were so unkempt they would have had to be
Photoshopped out of my shots. She was probably ashamed of having brought
them out in public like that.

I didn't tell him that, but I did tell him to tell her I was shooting the
cat. (Chicken way out.)

(Finally to my point.)

We talk a lot about "if it can be seen, it can be shot."

We say "nice catch!"

Sometimes we draw a veil of silence over a shot, leaving the creator
wondering if there is anybody out there.

But this story is, in the end, not about the security of our houses, or if
we are safe from being seen.

It is about a woman who recognized her kid in the picture, and worried
about her baby.
