Leica Solms in their users manual (English issue of 2011) furnished with
the M-9 say cit.; "... they don't sell memory cards (SD/SDHC e.i. Secure
Digital and SD High Capacity) because the range is too extensive to
test..." and also...".... take no responsability with some unbranded
cards......"....&...".... therefore we recommend for example the 'Extreme
III' or 'Professional' cards from the leading brands 'SanDisk' and 'Lexar'.

In private they recommend (re)formatting the card in the choosen Leica
camera before you start a new card and do it again from time to time. Do
not put the card in other cameras between shots. I understood these cards
don't have a super long life. I also heard several sceptic remarks about so
called high capacity cards.

I had some problems when I copied a card outsid of the camera instead of
using the usb connection. Afterwards the camera didn't recognise the
contents anymore, but it was still there when I checked again in my PC.
When you have troubles of any kind simply cut the power, wait a few
minutes, even take the battery and memory card out of the camera and then
try to start again or even reformat the card. I alway have other cards with
me + a spare fresh reloaded battery.

In practice (in my opinion) I didn't see much difference with so called
highspeed cards. And it doesn't justify the differences in prices I saw. I
only use the DNG/RAW standard at 160 ASA. In practice allways keep such
cards in decent containers to protect them for static electricity and never
touch the contacts!

Recommendations with the M-8 are probably the same. Most cards I've seen
have a security lock.
You can certainly find a copy of their manuals on the Leica site in
Germany. The contents of the manual and the translations from German to
English and French are perfect this time. The texts in Geman and the
English and French translations of the users manuals for the R-8 and R-9
were ridiculous at best.
