That seems to be the feedback from a few disappointed R lens owners so far.
There are no actual production cameras out there yet of course.
Looked at critically the EVF is the only add on that might be called
'flimsy' or breakable. The R adapter hardly is.
Is anyone aware of any reports at all of failures/damages to these EVFs in
the field on other cameras?
You can buy the identical model from Olympus cheaper to put on the M if
wanted. of course.
Alternatively if you can realistically support the combination (handhold or
tripod) you can go without the EVF at all.

But this new M is not, or rather will not be primarily an R9 and DMR
substitute. Rather it is an M camera with more capabilities.
It's for Leica M buyers. For those that also have some good R lenses it has
a bonus option.
I think it acknowledges the same market realities that caused the R10
cancellation.
Recently quoted was that those active R lens users are a fraction of M8
users who themselves are a fraction of M9 users.

I will almost certainly get the new M once they are both available and
proven to actually do more for me than my M9.
If using R lenses was my primary goal, I think I would follow Howard's
route which is to adapt those lenses with the Leitax kits and use them on a
full frame Nikon.

Cheers,
Geoff
