The camera does not identify whether the battery is genuine, only if it is
operating to specification.
Yes I know of people using non-original batteries with the new firmware.

If you have a worn out battery genuine or otherwise the camera may not
work.
If you have reported problems that you did not see before and but do not
want that warning feature you can revert to your current firmware..
