Yes, I'm almost believing that Ireland's efforts with our bunch of has-beens 
and low level no-hopers in the group stages when we found ourselves drawn 
against both Italy and Spain - not to mention Croatia - were almost 
creditable.

The scoreline in the final flattered Spain and it was robbed of some of its 
lustre, as many consider that the Italians were very unlucky with injuries. 
Had they had their full complement, they well might have caught Spain 
napping. An early goal in the second half could have changed the complexion 
of the match entirely.

Ah well, if wishes were Leicas, I'd have at least seven M9s, and I'd be 
making a big stack next week at Lluis's recovery party in Barcelona, but 
instead I'm back at work after three weeks holidays tomorrow. I wouldn't 
mind, it's only a short hop by plane from here, but it'll have to be another 
time!
