Ric,
Hermes were actually the owners of Leica who sold out to Kaufmann (-:

They are arguably the most storied luxury marque on the planet, especially
famed for their silk and leather (they started out as saddle, bridle and
stirrup makers for the horsey set), and are still predominantly family
owned, and very profitable. To make you dislike them a little more, their
ties are the de rigueur uniform of Wall Street. (-:

It always surprised me that they did not retain Leica, it was  a match made
in heaven in terms of brand positioning.
