Reservations cost about $17.50 for the ferry from Victoria to Vancouver. If you go midweek, not much need for reservations unless there's an event or there's been a storm and nobody could get off the Island for a couple of hours. Weekends (Fri-Sun) get reservations, otherwise you could easily wait a couple of extra hours at the terminal.
