Congrats Peter

Not a heavy duty Mac user, but I know they use something called Spotlight
for file/message searching. My guess is that somehow the program is not
running or the preference is not setup right. You can test that by just
doing a normal file search and see if you have a problem with that too
(upper right hand corner of the menu bar).

Google that and may be you will find some help there.
