My wife is currently recovering from a knee replacement 3 weeks ago and 
doing very well.

If it turns out that you need a knee replacement, don't worry!  It's the
best thing I ever had done.  I went from hobbling along with two crutches
to hiking the Grand Canyon with my new knees.
