My M6 and M7's have different covers.  The M6 screws in; the M7 is a 
plastic bayonet.

I wonder if you haven't somehow damaged the plastic bayonet bits on the 
cap?  Maybe you just need to get a new cap.  Looking at both of my M7's, 
they require the same amount of force to remove.  Relatively firm, but 
once you get it past the locking point, they come right off.
