How do you get around the basics of aperture? It has to be wide, and a bit
longer due to focal length, so is bulky. And as you often say, who needs
fast lenses or shallow DoF these days with high ISO ;-)

There is no 1.4 long glass in the Leica lineup now.
And with modem computer design and modern glasses and coatings I think they
can now make one compact enough to not get in the way of the viewfinder.
