Doug was my inspiration for product selection.... His solution does work!

The Leica has recently been mounted on a Monopod with a (very) cheap quick
release plate.... no ball head, just a $20 Manfrotto front and back swivel
thingie.

This has been my #1 support for the last ten years. I recently changed to
an upgraded QR clamp (kirkphoto.com) that doesn't swivel atop the Manfrotto
tilt head, but otherwise it's been the same tough-as-nails Manfrotto monopod
(purchased used) & tilt head. This stuff doesn't wear out.
