Bob, I think that the reasoning is that the cause or causes of this problem
are as yet undetermined and card formats/overwites are conditions mentioned
by some customers in data that Leica Camera has so far. So if it ain't broke
don't fix it ;-). My usual practice is to just put the card back in camera
after importing the images and then delete all in camera.
It's not clear either whether other specific conditions can trigger a
problem, for example attempting to view some images on the card while the
buffer is still being cleared (light blinking). Sandisk cards are one brand
(not the only brand) where problems are being reported and they are known to
be counterfeited too.

Worth keeping in mind that the incidence of problems reported to Leica
Camera thus far is very low (<0.1% of M9/M9P sold).
