Hi Leo,

The centre is very modern and is surrounded by quite a
lot of rough bits with derelict industries and run-down
housing.

Here's the official website:
http://www.visitmanchester.com/

I've always found it a place where you go to concerts,
museums and galleries but the city itself not much to
look at.

Great place to go shopping though.

Plenty of good places to eat, particularly Indian and
Pakistani restaurants, pub food is very good, but
reasonably expensive in the city centre.

There are nice spots in the parks and along the canals
- some of the industrial landscapes and old cotton
mills are fascinating, so are parts of the Manchester
ship canal

If you want good scenery, hop on a train, and you are
soon out in the country: in the Pennines, the Peak
district (wonderful) or at the seaside.

Blackpool is the biggest resort and very British with
lots of Fish 'n Chips, Bingo halls and the like - very
photogenic if you like the down-side of UK resorts and
constructions similar to the Eiffel Tower. Blackpool
looks great at night when the illuminations are on, a
ride on an open-topped tram is fun, too.

This place in Manchester city centre is great for s/h gear:

*Real Camera
Sevendale House
5-7 Dale Street (entrance on Lever St.)

Open 6 days a week (not Sundays), 09.30-17.00. *

The *London Camera Exchange store* is quite good, but
my experience of them has always been that their prices
are too high.
They are on*Picadilly Plaza in Park Street*

Cheers
Douglas
