Well I'll throw a curve ball to you.
I went on a "delayed" honeymoon to Europe last year for 2 weeks. I had plans
to
take my M9 and a few lenses (21/35/50/90 and 135). I had this all packed and
ready to go.
The night before I really had reservations about it. I would have to switch
lenses depending on the situation. Lots of dust potential. I didn't know
what
the weather would be like. I didn't know if, walking around, I would be able
to
switch lenses quickly enough.
So I opted to take the Canon and 2 lenses (24-105/70-200f4).

I rarely used the 70-200. All I needed was the Canon around my neck, at my
side.
Hand always on it. Same range as my M's. Higher ISO performance to use high
shutter speeds since I didn't carry a tripod around (another good thing I
did).
And I got, IMO, just fantastic images.

Best decision I've made in years. The M has its place, but for long travel
in
bad weather and ability to frame quickly, my one body and lens worked really
well FOR ME.

Just one person's experience and opinion,
YMMV,
Bob

Subject: [Leica] Planning a trip (with Leicas)

I'm planning a multi-month trip to SE Asia after I graduate when the
fall semester ends. I'm hoping to take at least my M9 and preferably my
M8 as well. I'm thinking that most of the trip will be spent in Vietnam
and Cambodia.
Aside from the usual issues of traveling with regard to security of
gear and whatnot, are there any things I should be aware of as a
tourist with a camera? Specific laws or regulations come to mind. I
can't really find any information about this and most folks say I'll be
fine.
I'd love to hear from the LUG'ers who've traveled there and have
any experience and advice they could pass on from the point of view of
a photographer.

Thanks all,
Phil Forrest
