The Least Bittern is the smallest of the North American herons, about the size of a robin or blackbird. This particular Least Bittern is unusually cooperative and has a regular feeding area near a public trail. This bird typically feeds mid-morning and again in mid afternoon and doesn't mind camo-clad photographers at about 10' distance. http://wildlightphoto.com/birds/ardeidae/lebitt00.html Technical stuff: R8/DMR, 280mm f/4 APO-Telyt-R, shoulder stock & monopod, knee pads. Should have had elbow pads too (belly was well padded). Doug Herr Birdman of Sacramento http://www.wildlightphoto.com
