No choice..... I was required to link to my checking account.....

In the US, a direct transfer of funds is both rare and expensive.... $25 is
a typical bank to bank transfer cost....

I much preferred regular old personal checks..... 

But now EBay ( I think this is now true) requires the acceptance of
PayPal..... and since it favors the buyer, what buyer would not use it...?

Good gracious, do not give PayPal and their dependants access to your main
bank accounts, open a separate, paypal specific account. Transfer monies in
or out at your convenience and PayPal can simply go to blazes.
