Jim,
I think all makes of internal drives are quite reliable. The problem with
the internet is that the vocal few drown out the massive silent satisfied
majority. The 1 TB Barracuda drives I use for the most part have been
reliable, as have been Samsung drives which I have used in the past. The
real answer to reliability is backup, and if it is important irreplaceable
data, like my digital RAW files, multiple backup. I backup on a home server
(every night) as well as external drives (once a week). I use a combination
of Seagate Free Agent Extreme, as well as Free Agent Go external drives for
the multiple backups.
