My family had gone for a quick four day holiday early in May, and these are photographs from the trip. This set is from Dubare, an elephant training camp on the banks of the 800 km long River Cauvery, though Dubare is just 50 km from the source. The river is venerated as a goddess in South India, and is a central feature of Hinduism here. The elephant training camp was set up by the erstwhile Maharaja of Mysore to train elephants for religious and ceremonial duties, and has been in operation for over 100 years. It is a great place to go because anyone can help bathe the elephants, and is particularly helpful in introducing young children to animals so that their fear of animals gets mitigated: The ferry across the river: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/Kodagu/Kodagu_20100511_106.jpg.html Fellow tourists: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/Kodagu/Kodagu_20100511_117.jpg.html Bathing tusker: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/Kodagu/Kodagu_20100511_203.jpg.html Mahout: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/Kodagu/Kodagu_20100511_265.jpg.html Going home: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/Kodagu/Kodagu_20100511_301.jpg.html Picnic: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/Kodagu/Kodagu_20100511_314.jpg.html Path (to the toilet actually): http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/Kodagu/Kodagu_20100511_316.jpg.html River pool: http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/jayanand/Kodagu/Kodagu_20100511_326.jpg.html Comments and criticism, as ever, welcome.
