Gullah or Geechie are the terms used to refer to the culture of African 
American people living near the shore or on the barrier islands of South 
Carolina and Georgia. If I'm not mistaken, Gershwin's "Porgie and Bess" was 
written about and for these people. They have a unique sort of timber to 
their speech. It sounds somewhat similar to the speech of people from 
certain Caribbean islands.
