Jim,

 

Great! You can install both Nikonscan and Vuescan on the same PC and pick 
one or the other after scanner is fully initialized (light on and NOT 
flashing).

 

Been there, done that, but I would suggest just using one of these two, get 
familiar and comfortable using that SF before moving on to try the other, 
then decide on one.

 

Do not upgrade OS to 64 bit XP as Nikon does not currently support it with 
updated drivers (all Nikon scanners are unsupported) and Vuescan in my 
experience is not happy in 64 bit XP.

 

Internet suggests their are less issues with Windows Vista 64 and Windows 7 
and Nikon scanners.
