There are so many differences. For instance, music played by musicians,
together, in a room, at the same time, with air between their instruments
and the mics.... so you can hear the space. and the mics were so much
warmer. etc etc etc.

An interesting CD is the Benny Goodman live at carnegie hall complete
recording they issued about 8 or 10 years ago (?) -- they kept the original
tape's pops and clicks and everything else and you can hear it as music
played in time and space by musicians working in tandem. It's qutie good.
