He's sunk.  A distinctively-curved tree in the background of the suspected 
photo (revealed by adjusting exposure) matches a tree by a stone fence in a 
captive animal facility in Madrid, and the wolf in the photo has unique 
facial markings that match a tame/trained wolf at the same captive animal 
facility.
