Killing raptors was banned NA wide for good reason and it not against the 
law for the hawk to kill the chicken.

 

Chicken wire was invented just for this. Doesn't work well with foxes or 
coyotes though. 

 

Build a long chicken run with wire on all three sides that connects to the 
chicken house. The resident hawk will give up after a try or two and 
probably move on.
