(the summitar has the conical IR-cut filter created kindly for me by Len Taupier) i can't say what the long-term effect of constant collapsing of these lenses into the M8 is, but i have mounted both and collapsed both on the M8, and it won't smash the shutter or anything dramatic like that. on the other hand, when collapsing you do sometimes feel something contact inside when the lens is half-collapsed--i think it's the protrusions in the film chamber to the left and right behind the bayonet contacting the lens tube as it goes back. the lens continues to collapse without force. In summary: 1. you can fully collapse the lenses on an M8 2. they don't smash the shutter. 3. the tube seems to gently contact something inside the film chamber, but there's no discernible damage. 4. officially the makers warn against collapsing these lenses, but it's not clear why. 5. since the fit of the back of the focus tube is tight inside when collapsed, i'd recommend not mounting and removing lenses when in collapsed state. -rei Lluis Ripoll Querol wrote: > Hi Len, > > I'm glad you are fine!, happy new year and I hope continue seeing your > pictures, particularly those so nice with your beautiful Summarex!. > > I've used very few these collapsible lenses on the M8, and I'll keep > careful without collapsing. > > Nice to meet you again on the LUG, > > Keep wel, > Cheers > Lluis > > Lluis Ripoll Querol > lluisripollquerol at gmail.com > > http://gallery.leica-users.org/v/luisrq/ > http://photo.net/photos/lluisripoll > Blog: > http://lluisripollphotography.wordpress.com/ > > http://www.lrmusic.es > > El 17/01/2010, a las 1:44, Leonard Taupier escribi?: > >> Hi Lluis, >> >> Yes I'm fine.
