For dedicated film scanners, I'm partial to the Nikon line, though most 
models seem to be discontinued or in short supply.
The LS9000 (does MF) costs over $2000, .....used.....
I'm happy with the Coolscan V for occasional use; could be a little slow if 
you need to scan mass quantities.
LS5000 can take a batch feeder for slides.

A used Coolscan IV could be a sub-$500 option.

The Epson flatbeds are very well-reviewed, but I have no personal experience.
I prefer VueScan software as it works well with everything.
