Thanks Ted,

I've been doing this, or a variation of it  for a couple years, since I
started using the M8.  It really becomes most evident when the flower is
very small. and the background fairly distant.

Many of my flowers are shot with the 35mm Summicron asph, and as you
guessed, wide open or nearly so, and at about as close as the lens will
focus.

After that, I just rely on the ability to crop the M8 image to get what I
need.
