Thanks Jayanand, good to know I am not hallucinating.

In the meantime, the courier arrived with my 3 rolls of negatives--really 
quite impressive. I put the film in the post Monday afternoon, and I have 
the negatives in my hand Thursday morning, from a lab 550 km away.

Now I will do a test with a real picture before deciding whether to buy 
Vuescan.
