I wonder if it is grain aliasing?
The most grainy looking scans I get from my Rolleiflex negs are from 200asa 
film. Far more than the original, I have been told it is because there is a 
digital aliasing effect due to the size of the grain and the sampling 
frequency. 100asa and 400asa films do not have this problem, and scans from 
both look less grainy.
