That is what I personally can not get used to with this type of  
camera. The G1 (and GH1) are actually only a tiny bit bigger in  
reality, in as much as the eye-level viewfinder only sticks up a bit  
and the handgrip does not protrude forward more than the lens. I find  
both these much better for all the types of photography that I do,  
particularly manual focussing the M lenses...
