Since you're upgrading to Snow Leopard you have an Intel-based Mac. They use a different type of partition map. The one you want to be sure to use is: GUID Partition Table If you have used your drive in a G5 it has the other kind of partition. Your copy will work and you'll move all your data - you simply won't be able to boot off that drive. You'd sorta-kinda think that Disk Utility would maybe point this out to you (or that SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner would) but they don't appear to mention this critical fact. Since it takes a while to move 350 GB around (why my system disk has on it) it's worth getting right the first time.
