Couldn't agree more. In the end - show me the print - I don't give a hoot about the gear. Even a 72 ppi .jpg can show a whole lot of aesthetic quality (though not compared to a fine print). So much for the subjective and aesthetic side of the craft. Then we have technical realities like; bit depth, dynamic range, micro fine detail rendering, color fringing, chromatic aberration, moire, etc. We can look at these technical realities in the form of charts, graphs, lists, etc. and/or do side by side real world comparisons of files on the screen as well as prints. However - we can never glean much useful technical data from a 72 ppi .jpg. In technical comparisons I want to see a RAW file, full resolution .tif or 16x20 print to make a technical judgement.
