One hopes that the sacrifices and lessons from past conflicts will not be forgotten. In the UK, henry Allingham, the last survivor of the trenches in WW1 passed away yesterday. When asked by schoolchildren 'how would he like to be remembered?' , he answered 'forget about me, I want you to remember the others' (who didn't make it).
