Maybe that is one of the parameters which can be improved if others which can be easily be fixed in software are relaxed???? If, rather than very expensive construction or glass but by both optics -and- software, the sort of result Leica have achieved can be obtained at a more modest price, then so much the better. The 4/3 standard is the only lens mount where this is feasible though. If Canon, for example, made an EOS mount lens with considerable distortion but much sharper with better boke, with the idea of fixing the distortion in software, some bright spark would complain that it was rubbish with film, either obstreperous or dim! Already one of the photo sites has gone to considerable trouble to bypass the distortion correction software for the Panasonic kit lens for the G1 to "prove" that the lens is rubbish.
