Subject: [Leica] Why sharpen?

When scanning a neg, I always have to apply "capture" sharpening since some
sharpness is lost in the scan - I don't know why. With my Canon DSLR's, I
don't absolutely have to capture sharpen, probably, but a little bit applied
in ACR seems to help. At 100% it is easy to see when it's overdone, which
is pretty quickly. I do think "output" sharpening is beneficial to avoid
the losses caused by the inkjet heads or the press, regardless of the
source.

I do think the (even sharpened) digital images are more natural than the
images from using unsharp masking in the wet darkroom. Just my opinion.
