I'm sure lots of W's became O's, and that might account for part of it... 

I also have to wonder if it also has something to do with the O campaign's 
relentless outreach via the Internet...especially to younger voters. It was 
a new way of doing business that the M campaign never seemed to grasp... Or, 
if it did, couldn't keep up....
