Ah, sd, that's cheating. But it's worth a test. I still have a mint,  
un-modified DR I can use on my M8 and compare the same shot with the  
micro Nikkor on my D700. It should be interesting. But were you  
shooting in the macro range or using it as a normal lens at longer  
distances?
