Leitz provided a conversion kit to allow the use of the later bulb on earlier V35's. Mine is so equipped. The new Philips bulbs seem readily available, the earlier ones are essentially impossible to find. I am suprrised that one went as cheaply as $25 on eBay. One of the Usual Suspects -- PacRIm, perhaps? -- found a box of a crate of the original bulbs about a decade back and was asking $100 each for them -- and they were sold out within a month.
