I'm sure it can be restored to original. However, my preference is to have the inner rings somehow affixed to each other, so the lens would always operate in "M" mode. I've inquired about that option. I have to wait to hear back. I wouldn't think it would be too difficult for an expert technician to link up the two rings. Doing so would meet my objectives without my having to buy an expensive part. :-) The option to convert the lens back to R would be nice, but it's not important to me. I don't plan on ever buying another R body. I don't see myself shooting film in anything but my M system, Rolleiflex for my Toyo View Camera. Further, I don't see myself buying a digital R body. I don't even know what digital R bodies are available. IMO, used R lenses are an incredible value right now if you look strictly at performance vs cost. Perhaps that's because there aren't a lot of options, outside of older film cameras, if you want to use them.
