My $0.02:

Gitzo Carbon Fiber legs ( I guess that should be ... Leg?)..... and a head.
Or non- Carbon leg.

The head is a choice between the Gitzo models ( which are ball centric or
ball offset) and something else. The Gitzo are nice heads, and easily
available used.
A lot like the ball heads, and the Really Right Stuff heads are really nice.
I have a light weight manfrotto that comes as a QR model..... not mine, I
opted for less weight and no QR ( cheaper).

The first question to ask.... do you want a light weight setup? Or is
weight secondary? Light = Carbon Fiber. ( but it is only 1 leg, so the
weight difference of Carbon Fiber vs not, is pretty small.)
Second Question... how much do you wish to spend? New? Used? ( heads can
cost upwards of $500.... plus the leg: a total of easily $1000.)
Third... Do you have a tripod QR system now? Do you wish to be compatible?
