I used the Gitzo monopod as a walking stick up until I had knee surgery to replace two knees. Then I started, after physical therapy, with two Leki hiking sticks. I used those to hike the Great Wall of China. I also used the Leki sticks to hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back. I've gradually been able to go back to one Gitzo monopod for photography and I would never consider another one. The Gitzo functions perfectly as a walking stick and a monopod. I do find that I use it less as a walking stick since I had my knees replaced but that is a tribute to my surgeon and has nothing to do with the Gitzo. Now I just carry the Gitzo, mostly for use as a monopod, but also when I need an assist up stairs or a steep slope!! Hope this helps. Tina Tina Manley www.tinamanley.com
