The B&W version takes the subject out of context.  However, I really 
like Walt's proposed recrop.  You have the vertical and horizontal 
subject placement offset just enough to balance each other.  Secondly, 
the upper right hand corner of the image balances well with the lower 
left.  (Light and dark respectively).  I am not good at saying what I 
like because I always feel I have to explain why (which is difficult for 
me).
