Mechanical pencils?  Wow!  I've not used a pencil 
in years:  I even do crossword puzzles in ink.

I do have a lot of ball-point pens acquired over 
the years of my military service, all neatly 
marked with "U.S. Government".  I have no idea 
who this guy was, but his pens tend to last a 
long time and be relatively comfortable to use.

I generally write with a Koh-i-Noor Rapidograph 
with either a .1mm or .3mm tip, using either 
Rapidograph ink or, when I can find it, the 
authentic Higgins India Ink.  Where I have to use 
a ball-point pen, I use a Cross with a fine black insert.
