It's called commerce, the perceived of business to develop newer, 'better' products to entire buyers into spending hard-earned money on products that they do not need but want because they have been persuaded that they need. I too have no blackberry. In fact, I did not own a cell-phone until four years ago and bought one only when moving into my new home, found that Verizon, the phone company, had failed to install the line that had been ordered and confirmed weeks before. As I am a lawyer, I simply could not be unreachable by clients. BUT, today, the only people who have my cellphone number are my daughter, granddaughter, sister-in-law, personal physician and one distaff friend. As to clients, I am unwilling to be at their behest on an instant's notice; there is no client emergency so pressing that it cannnot wait the hour or two until I check my voicemails, at which point I, not they, can decide if it is so urgent as to require instant response. Of course, 10 years ago I could not act thus, as my law partners would have had cardiac arrest. Happily today, I report only to me.
