I too have a lot of old negatives from the 50's that I wanted to scan...works great on everything I have put through it. I had a Coolscan 4000ED, but sold it when I got the 9000. The 4000 is more convenient for 35mm, but I now actually shoot more MF film now so the 9000 was the way to go for me. I have used Viewscan for many years with the 4000, but I like the Nikon software better for the 9000.
