It is the mix of black and white parts, like a Panda bear.

The story behind the origins is that Leica ran out of black parts for 
its chrome production (or the other way around), and couldn't wait for a 
run of the shortage in the other colour, so they made a mixed-colour 
camera and badged it the "Panda" camera.
